Graffiti: Art or Vandalism?

Most of these photos were taken last year.  I was able to capture some of them before they were painted over.  For me, graffiti has always been an interesting form of expression.

Memorial Hall Plaques

Memorial Hall was built in 1929 to honor 47 UGA graduates who died during World War I. Just inside the main entrance you can find these plaques bearing their names.  We shall remember.

I feel very lucky to have caught the Wings of Freedom tour at the Ben Epps Airport.  Today is the last day they will be here.

President's Club Garden

The President's Club Garden was created in 1973 to honor those donors who gave a lot of money to UGA.  Today it's one of the most beautiful spots on North Campus.  The Garden is located behind Old College.

The Top Has Returned

The top of the monument has returned.

Nature Outside My Door

These birds were sitting on a sign just outside my apartment.  I spied them several days in a row.

Herty Field - My Favorite

Herty Field, located just behind New College on North Campus, is my favorite spot here at the University of Georgia.  It's just beautiful.

Confederate Memorial Missing Piece

The city has removed the top part of the monument because it had shifted.  It has always been a little off-center so I am glad to see the city take action.  It would have been worse if they had let it fall and possibly hurt someone.

Here's the story about the event from The Augusta newspaper.  Same story as running in the Athens Banner Herald except it's free.

Old College Roommates

Located on North Campus, Old College currently houses the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. It was built in 1806 and modeled after Connecticut Hall at Yale.  UGA's first president, Abraham Baldwin, graduated from Yale.  Old College has been used as classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, and administrative offices.  In the 1830's Crawford W. Long, a pioneer in the use of anesthesia, and
Alexander Stephens, VP of the Confederacy, were roommates and lived in Old College.  A plaque commemorates the two men.  The plaque is located on the on the right side of the second floor between the last two windows.

SNOW 1/28/14

With the first snow flurries students, staff, and faculty were excited.  Everyone was anticipating getting out early and the possibility of the university being closed the next day.  The campus closed at 3:30 and is closed today.

Main Library, UGA Campus

Law Library

Strange creatures started appearing all over campus.  It was the beginning of the Attack of the Little Snowmen. Nothing like a little snow to bring out the kid in all of us.  Enjoy the day Athens!

Spec Towns Track

Located on the corner of Lumpkin & Pinecrest, the Forrest "Spec" Towns Track was built in 1964.

In 1936 Forrest Towns became the first Georgian to be a member of the American Olympic Team.  He won the gold in the 110 m hurdle.  Towns later became the Head Track and Field coach at the University of Georgia.

Here is a link to a great story about him in the Augusta Magazine from 2011:
