President's Club Garden

The President's Club Garden was created in 1973 to honor those donors who gave a lot of money to UGA.  Today it's one of the most beautiful spots on North Campus.  The Garden is located behind Old College.

Old College Roommates

Located on North Campus, Old College currently houses the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. It was built in 1806 and modeled after Connecticut Hall at Yale.  UGA's first president, Abraham Baldwin, graduated from Yale.  Old College has been used as classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, and administrative offices.  In the 1830's Crawford W. Long, a pioneer in the use of anesthesia, and
Alexander Stephens, VP of the Confederacy, were roommates and lived in Old College.  A plaque commemorates the two men.  The plaque is located on the on the right side of the second floor between the last two windows.

SNOW 1/28/14

With the first snow flurries students, staff, and faculty were excited.  Everyone was anticipating getting out early and the possibility of the university being closed the next day.  The campus closed at 3:30 and is closed today.

What a nice day yesterday!  This is the view looking towards Lumpkin/Broad intersection from North Campus.

Located on Broad Street across from UGA Campus.  Once home to a bank and an insurance company. Current downstairs occupant is...wait for it...a bar.  Surprised?  

Herty Field

Herty Field is one of my favorite spots on the University of Georgia campus.  It was the first field for football and baseball at the University of Georgia

The field was completed in 1891.  It was named for Dr. Charles Herty who was a chemistry professor and responsible for bringing football to the university.  He also is credited for bringing baseball to UGA.   I have a personal love for the baseball team because my grandfather and grand uncle both played for Georgia between 1909 and 1913,.  Since I work on North Campus I make a special effort to walk by Herty Field at least once a day and think of them.

This picture was taken in the summer.  You won't see those gorgeous plants right now as the university replaces them with smaller ones for football season.  Football fans are extremely hard on our beautiful campus and leave a lot of garbage and destruction behind.

This sign makes me sad. It's existence means that some inconsiderate and probably drunken UGA fans actually set up their tailgate party in the graveyard.

North Campus after the ULL-UGA game

It was so nice to leave work at 5pm tonight and see the campus actually clean. Such a drastic difference from how the "fans" left it last year. At least for this game people respected the new tailgating rules. There were no drunken tailgatters urinating in the shrubbery. There were no fights outside of the library. WE did not see people vomiting all over the grass. It was actually a very pleasant enjoyable day. Some say it was because of the early start of the game and the fact that our opponent was ULL and not an SEC team. Now I will admit it's better when fans only have a few hours to drink before a game instead of ten hours. However, I am hoping that the new tailgatting rules concerning North Campus detered those "fans" who disrespect the campus of the very team that they profess to love from tailgating on North Campus. The fans that we saw setting up chairs and tables on the quad were fantastic and they picked up after themseves very well.

I really hope Dawg fans will continue to respect our campus! But for today I wish to thank the fans. It will be great to go to work tomorrow and not endure the smell the urine, vomit, and garbage which assaulted our senses after every game last year. Y'ALL DID VERY WELL!
